About the Owner

Scott holds a Master’s degree in Intelligence Studies from Mercyhurst College with a research focus on human and canine ergonomics. He is passionate about researching the most efficient and effective ways to utilize canine industry resources.

He has managed canine programs for the US Government where he worked as a Supervisory Canine Professional and as a Data Analyst. He has previously worked as a Private Canine Contractor, founded a private canine technology company, and spent a number of years as a Consultant.

Scott has since published research reports such as The Quantification of Canine Asset Performance and A Systems Approach to Canine Program Improvement.

In 2020 Scott’s wife Rachel was diagnosed with Young-Onset Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 33. Given that Scott’s experience had always leaned towards canine research he decided to pivot and focus his efforts on raising the standard of training within the canine industry. This led to the founding of CTRG. Scott’s current goal is to collect training-related data for the purposes of advancing and improving the efficiency of training methods within various aspects of the canine industry. One pivotal area that Scott is targeting for improvement is the speed and efficiency at which mobility and rehabilitation dogs are trained.

If I could do more stars I would. I have a 2 yr old Doberman and it only took a a week and a half to get her basic training down. Now I can walk her easily without a problem. Thanks Scott!

CTRG and Scott were great. One of 4 instructors for my service and certified therapy Dobermann. They were by far the best trainers we used. In fact we still use them for refresher training and boarding. Highly recommend!

The Imperfect Trainer

There’s a story about my father that I’ve told my girls more than once. The setting is a park in Niagara Falls in the 1990’s. I can’t place the time of year, the weather was dreary yet mild with respect to temperature. We ventured an hour and a half from our hometown to visit the Falls as a family. We had recently finished our tour and were making our way back to the car down one of the trails when a voice called out from across the park. The voice was calling, “Scott, hey Scott.” (My father’s name) This obviously peaked my youthful attention as I was somewhere between 10-12 years old at the time. As I looked over to see who was calling for my Dad in this random park, so far from home, I caught sight of a man that appeared

Wizard Dogs and What They Can Teach Us About How To Think

Scott D / August 22, 2024

You’re sitting in a restaurant with a couple of friends that you haven’t seen in some time. It’s a square table for 4 in an open venue in which there are many customers seated nearby. The mood is light, maybe a little vibrant. The acoustics are such that if you lean in you can clearly hear the musings of all the patrons at the tables immediately surrounding you. This is a familiar setting, yes? Now, there is a gentleman seated with two acquaintances at the table to your immediate right. He speaks with a clear, elevated, voice of authority as if he firmly supports and believes in what he is saying. The subject of the conversation is… POLITICS! Now don’t close out your tab just yet! We haven’t gotten to the important stuff! I’d imagine that many of you felt

Scent Detection (An Uncommon Remedy for Reactivity)

Scott D / August 20, 2024

We wanted to post a quick update on a particularly challenging case. Buddy has been by far the most reactive dog I have worked with in quite some time. I’ve been working with this client for approximately 5-6 weeks at this point. When we began, he wasn’t able to be within 50-100 feet of another dog/bike/person without violently reacting. He grew up on the street, wasn’t weened properly, and had a slew of odds stacked against him from the start. It’s likely that he would have been put down if not for intervention. As those who follow us or have worked with us know, we have a particular leaning toward working dogs and scent detection. We observed minimal improvement using the
